What exactly is Satori House Eating Disorder Transitional Living / Extended Care Residence?

Satori House for Eating Disorder Transitional Living / Extended Care Residence is a non-clinical residential home for those in recovery from all forms of eating disorders. It evolved from an overwhelming need to provide individuals coming out of residential treatment facilities with a transitional living environment to help them gradually integrate into independent living. Providing Satori House as an option can significantly reduce the chance of relapse, a frustrating yet real problem with recovery from eating disorders.

Who can live at Satori House Eating Disorder Transitional Living / Extended Care Residence?

Satori House was created for women 18 years of age and older (exceptions have been made) who are dealing with recovery from eating disorders. Guests typically come from a higher level of care and transition into Satori House. We understand that coming out of an inpatient program can be overwhelming and scary. We want to provide a place where individuals can continue with their lives, face the accompanying challenges that brings, while gaining support from a recovery-based environment. We don't think you should have to choose between trying to recover and trying to live a normal life.

Some of our guests have not needed full residential care but are participating in our Eating Disorders Intensive Outpatient Program or Partial Hospital Program, while living in our safe and supportive recovery home. Satori House is unique because guests may live here while continuing with their own individual outpatient therapist and dietitian (if deemed clinically appropriate). For all guests receiving treatment or therapy outside Shoreline, we simply require active communication with the professionals involved in order to develop and maintain consistency in setting goals and planning treatment. Because the existing therapist tends to know their client best, we welcome their input and collaboration.

Satori House offers semi-structured programming throughout the day with 24-hour supervision. Individuals will be required to participate in core programming, yet individual daily schedules will be designed to address each guest's specific goals. We believe guests should lead balanced lives, so all guests are required to participate in the community. For some this will mean taking a class, for others it might mean holding a part-time job or volunteering in the community. It is our goal to help you practice recovery skills in the real world. Our recovery coaches will help you implement these components.
