About the Founder and Executive Director Rachel Levi, MFT, CEDS

altHi, I am Rachel Levi, the founder and director of Shoreline Center for Eating Disorder Treatment. I opened Shoreline in 1995 because I wanted to help women and men recover from eating disorders and body image problems. As a certified eating disorders treatment specialist and licensed family therapist, I strongly believe that a personalized, compassionate and integrated treatment program has the greatest success in helping individuals achieve recovery and attain a satisfying, healthy life.

What I want to do in the following pages is to help you get a better sense of "Shoreline" and the services we provide for you or a loved one. I understand that the process of finding the "right" treatment can be a daunting, intimidating and financially overwhelming task. I can promise to provide you with my own personal attention and guidance while you navigate what is best for you.

The core of our mission at Shoreline is helping our clients break free from the debilitating, self-imposed rules and obsessions of eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating, and learn to live a happy, balanced life. To achieve this, we have an experienced, multidisciplinary staff of eating disorder specialists, including therapists, dietitians and physicians. Both individual and group therapy is a large part of our treatment program, but we also incorporate a wide variety of other supportive and creative activities, including music and art therapy, yoga, Nia, beach walks and nature activities, equine therapy, meal planning, cooking classes and restaurant and grocery store outings.

We also understand that anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorders can have severe emotional, spiritual and physical consequences for those afflicted. The physical toll alone can put an individual's life and health in serious jeopardy. We strongly believe that the most effective therapy begins with restoring biochemical functioning and nutritional balance in our clients, and implementing healthy eating and exercise habits. Our program incorporates the "intuitive eating" philosophy. This helps individuals to change their destructive behaviors and thought, and gain a more peaceful relationship with food and body.

An important part of Shoreline’s treatment is to help our clients gain insight into the role that their eating disorder plays or has played in their life, and then help them utilize new ways of dealing with life without resorting to self-destructive patterns of coping and communicating. We help individuals tackle the distorted ways in which they think about themselves, which often perpetuates the depression and anxiety they are experiencing.

Because of our experience with those suffering from eating disorders, we recognize that when clients first arrive at Shoreline, they often are unsure about what they want to achieve. Therefore, part of what we do is help an individual imagine what recovery could be like. Some of our clients have had their eating disorders for so long, they find it hard to imagine their life or identity without it. At Shoreline, we have helped many clients transform from feeling hopeless and rigid to feeling balanced and hopeful.

What makes Shoreline unique is that we offer several different treatment programs and services for those who want to heal from disordered eating and thinking. Our newest addition is Satori House, an extended care / transitional living home that provides a structured, nurturing environment for eating disorder recovery. This level of care, in combination with either our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or Partial Hospital Program (PHP), is perfect for those who are trying to stay in recovery while easing back into healthy, independent lives. Together, Satori House and our Outpatient Programs were designed to enhance the recovery process while also reducing the likelihood of relapse. Other programs and services offered by Shoreline Center include: individual psychotherapy, individual nutrition counseling, intuitive eating psycho-educational group, alumni group and workshops for family and friends.

Shoreline Center for Eating Disorders Treatment is easily accessed from both Los Angeles and Orange County. We are located in the seaside community of Belmont Shore, within the city of Long Beach. With the addition of Satori House Transitional Living / Extended Care Residence, we are able to accommodate women from United States and beyond.

We invite you to heal here.

Rachel Levi, MFT
