Possible Warning Signs of an Eating Disorder |
- Avoidance of meals or social situations that involve eating
- Eating rituals such as cutting into small pieces ritualistically arranging food on plate
- Noticeable fluctuations in eating periods of excessive eating cycled with excessive food restriction
- Obsessive exercise regardless of illness, injury, or other important events
- Signs of vomiting or laxative use
- Preoccupation with food and dissatisfaction with body shape
- Layering clothes due to low body temperature
- Dental problems or marks on knuckles
- Banning of certain foods or food groups Intense fear of weight gain or preoccupation with weight loss
- Difficulty talking about feelings; social withdrawal or isolation
- Selfharming behaviors such as cutting, substance use, or other risktaking behaviors
- Secretive binge eating; hiding or hoarding food
- Any significant changes in eating behaviors or body image satisfaction
