Day Treatment / Partial Hospital Program (PHP) Eating Disorders Treatment

What is our Day Treatment / Partial Hospital Program?

Our Eating Disorder Day Treatment program is the most intensive treatment service we offer. The program meets Monday through Saturday for 6 - 8 hours. Treatment involves the provision of lunch, dinner and two snacks, as well as staff supervision at mealtimes and a therapeutic structured holding environment throughout the day. Clients rely on the structure and supervision provided by a multi-disciplinary treatment staff, including caring and compassionate therapists, dietitians, and psychiatrists.

We provide individual, group and family therapy, nutritional counseling and psychoeducation on a variety of topics. Adjunctive therapies include fitness and life skills training, spiritual enhancement, sexuality and body awareness, as well as art, music, yoga and other expressive therapies. Additionally, we incorporate Dialectic Based Psychotherapy (DBT) and Cognitive Therapies into all our core programming.

Eating Disorder Day Treatment / Partial Hospital (PHP) Philosophy and Goals

The Eating Disorder Day Treatment program at Shoreline was created in an effort to help individuals receive high quality, intensive treatment, in the least restrictive environment possible while maintaining safety and effectiveness. Although we recognize the need for a high level of containment and structure, we also know that it is in the real world (not just in treatment) where people struggle and move back into their eating disorder. Unlike full residential programs, spending some hours away from the program, after dinner and early mornings for example, give individuals the opportunity to start practicing the skills they are learning before they have to discharge. Our program is unique as it allows an individual to get highly intensive treatment without being in a sterile hospital based setting. Instead, treatment takes place in a warm home-like space, which we believe enhances the recovery process. In keeping with the philosophy of Shoreline, each client's treatment plan has individualized goals based on their specific challenges. Some of these goals might include learning how to tolerate and appropriately express feelings, learning to identify the meaning of their symptoms, and replacing unhealthy and destructive coping skills with healthier ones.

For those who need even more supervision and support, we offer Satori House. Satori House is a non-clinical extended care residence where individuals live and gain extra footing in their eating disorder recovery before attempting to go back into their independent lives. Individuals may live at Satori House while participating in either Intensive Outpatient (IOP) or Day Treatment (PHP) programs. Some people remain living at Satori House even upon completion of a treatment program so that they have additional support while they re-integrate back into life.

All aspects of our treatment programs are based on APA guidelines.

Admissions | Day Treatment / Partial Hospital Program (PHP)

The admissions process for the Eating Disorder Day Treatment / Partial Hospital program at Shoreline begins with a call to our intake specialist. Potential clients whill be scheduled for a detailed assessment to determine if the Day Treatment / Partial Hospital program is the appropriate level of care. Out of town clients considering the program will participate in their assessment via telephone. All clients will be required to acquire medical clearance from their primary care physician, indicating that they are medically stable enough for this level of care (Shoreline will provide the appropriate medical clearance form).
